    Sashi Tharoor: On the first day of the nomination process for the post of Congress President, senior party leader Shashi Tharoor called for the nomination papers through a representative and he is likely to file it on September 30. Now there is a strong possibility that Tharoor may directly face Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in the election for the post of President.

    Shashi Tharoor’s representative and All India Professionals Congress office-bearer Aleem Zaveri received the nomination papers from the party’s Central Election Authority chief Madhusudan Mistry at the Congress headquarters. A few days ago, Tharoor had met Mistry to get information about the entire process of nomination. Sources said Tharoor is likely to file his nomination papers on September 30. The process of filing nomination papers began on Saturday. The last date for filing nomination papers is 30 September.

    Confusion over Rajasthan CM
    At the same time, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday clearly said that he will be a candidate for the post of party president and in the event of his removal from the post of Chief Minister, the party leadership will decide who will take over the responsibility. Gehlot made this announcement after meeting Rahul Gandhi. According to him, Rahul Gandhi has bluntly told him that there will be no candidate from the Gandhi-Nehru family.

    Tharoor in touch with representatives of many states
    As per the announced schedule for the election of Congress President, the process of filing nomination papers will run from September 24 to 30. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is October 8. In case of more than one candidate, voting will be held on October 17 and results will be declared on October 19. In such a situation, the source is informed that senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor can file nomination for the post of party president on September 30. Sources said Tharoor is in touch with representatives of various states. He has taken 5 sets of nomination papers. Tharoor will need 50 delegates as proposers for his candidacy.
